My head hurts. How the hell did I get here? What is this place? Here I am, alone in the middle of a street with... burning cars? How the hell did this happen? I get up to get a better overview of the situation, and I notice there are burning cars all along this street. I don't remember this. Why are the windows of the houses broken? Some houses are on fire. This is odd. I don't even remember getting here... I don't remember anything. I look down upon myself and see a hospital gown. I look around and see an ambulance not far away, it's burning as well... I don't understand this. The last thing I remember was that I crashed my dad's car and now this? How long was I out? Where is everyone?
I slowly walk down the street, hopefully I can meet someone who can help me, but I don't see anyone, not even bodies. It's like a war broke out and I got into the middle of it. I see an electronics store and go closer. Nothing is working. The lights are all off, but it is day, so that's understandable. I go inside, slowly. I call out to see if anyone is there. Noe on, yet. I go in quietly and look for a radio. I turn it on. Nothing but static, on every airwave. I get another radio, and another. Nothing, on any of them. I am so confused. I look down at myself, I look fine. My head hurts a little, I must have fell on it. That probably lead to me blacking out. I don't even remember getting into a hospital.
I go back out to the street, occasionaly screaming out for some help, or someone. It's odd to not hear anything. Once in a while I hear a bird, I think I also saw a dog. I'm not sure. I keep on stumbling past the wrecks. I see the leftovers of a newsstand. I pick up a newspaper, there is "War in Europe." written upon it in big letters. What? War? Who? I keep on reading, it seems that Russia declared war on ... all of Europe? This must be a joke, I must be dreaming... I must be dreaming... I keep on walking around, my feet are getting cold. I'm cold in general, only having a hospital gown on isn't very warm.
Eventually, I hear something. It sounds like air raid siren or something. Something you'd probably expect in movies, or history documentaries. I looked around, I saw nothing in the air. I looked down the street and saw flashing blue lights. It looked like police, or perhaps an ambulance? Maybe they can help me out of here.
A loud voice is booming from the van coming up the road, it turns out it is a police van. They are looking for looters. Once they realize I am only in a hospital gown they pick me up. They told me that it's dangerous to be on the streets at this time of day. No shit. I asked them what happened, they didn't believe that I didn't know. They confirmed what I had read, war in Europe. Who would declare war on us? Why would Russia attack us?
As the police drove on, ignoring everything else to get me to safety, I think, I looked around. The more we drove to where the police came from, the more bodies I saw. It was a horrible sight. Dead men, women, children. The one officer jested that I am lucky I don't have to report to arms. I asked why he thinks he doesn't have to fight. He simply tells me "They're already here."
